Photography Lighting, The Most Important Part Of A Quality Picture

No comment yet
I am a regular visitor to the Hypop online store which gives me access to a host of photography equipments, continuous lighting, backdrop stands, backdrop muslins, photography tents, photo tables and umbrella kits. As a owner of a studio and being passionate about photography, this site is of great use to me.

My relation with this store dates back to a long time. Not only do I get a wide range of products and accessories from this store at very competitive prices, but I also come to know about some interesting yet less known facts about photography. One of them is photography lighting, about which I am going to share a few facts.

Photo means light, so photography is all about light. The photographs we take are nothing but the recording of an image by passing light through an object. So light is the most vital part of photography. Photography lighting, thereby, refers to adjustment of the available light and using additional light when it is required. A professional photographer or an amateur having deep understanding of the subject, employs numerous controls and methods of adjusting light. Proper photography lighting involves various steps like understanding the Camera’s Light Meter, working of the aperture, shutter speed, photography exposure, fill flash and reflectors.

One should understand every detail of the light meter which affects in a major way, the photography lighting. A light meter is the indicator to understand whether the amount of light reaching the film will be sufficient to expose the image. Then one should understand the working of the aperture which adjusts the amount of light that can enter through the lens. Shutter speed is another attribute which modifies the amount of light that reaches the film sensor. A proper understanding of the photography exposure is also needed for a good photograph. Fill flash is needed to add extra light in times of deficiency and reflectors are used to create lighting effects.

Photography is a vast subject and remembering some vital aspects of photography lighting will be highly beneficial to photographers of any type. They are:

  • A broader light source is needed to bring a softer effect on the photographs
  • Light effect depends on the position of the source
  • Diffusion affects the light effect
  • Bouncing lights can bring about the same effect as diffusion and much more.
